Single of the week (Today): There is something about this single that sends me back to autumnal afternoons when I was 10, sitting on the couch in my old house listening to Sgt Peppers. And its also listening to Blur in year 10 while the rain beats the windows, too much homework to do. And its sunny afternoons having beers with friends at someone else’s house while everyone plays DJ. It is music of substance and emotion, at once nostalgic and fresh. Like The Soundtrack of Our Lives, The Winters have cleverly absorbed all of their influences into one shimmering whole leaving familiar tracks and trademarks without resorting to deja vu or pastiche. Here’s to many more winters.

“Today” in many respects is a song that encapsulates all the elements typical of The Winters – vocal harmonies, atmospheric effects, melodic and funky bass lines - all this and more combined in the one song! All elements of the song come together to form a formidable pop-rock song of an incredibly high standard.
This latest offering from the Sydney-based pop-rock quartet is a great example of the high level of musicianship possessed by The Winters.

Some nights, a tight, original band comes along that wields the power to entertain punters from all walks of life - this was to be one of those nights. The Winters were playing, and although I was not largely familiar with their music before the show, I was converted by the end!

Up and coming locals The Winters just keep getting better and better, fine-tuning their eclectic style of rock into a sound that will shake up your headspace and then take it on a cruise down the coast road in each show.

The Winters’ setlist tonight certainly showcased their vast musical diversity. From the lush Beach Boys-like soundscapes and harmonies of ‘Tides’, to the retro rock stomp of ‘Rock in my shoe’, through to the rock beast and soon to be first single ‘Today’. One can only admire this band for their fearless approach to their music and the release of the much-awaited debut single will only push their positive momentum even further.
